This program introduces students to the study of the normal functioning of the human body and to the pathological processes that occur in the diseased state. The study of biomedical sciences is the core component of the first three years. Detailed studies of anatomy, physiology and biochemistry lead to examinations of immunology, clinical biochemistry, pathobiology, haematology, microbiology and histology/cytology. The course also covers the core professional principles of laboratory management and quality assurance.

Entry Requirements:

Year 12 or equivalent; English (4,SA), Chemistry (4,SA), Maths B (4,SA). Students must provide evidence of a current First Aid/CPR certificate and immunity to hepatitis B within the first teaching period of their studies.

Structure:

96 credit points. There are 3 months of clinical placement in the final year in regional hospitals and private pathology laboratories which may include laboratories in Papua New Guinea.
