In this program students will take a common first year of engineering subjects to develop a broad skills base in order to choose a preferred engineering major. Engineering design is a central theme of this program. The joint degree enables students to combine their engineering degree with a science major over a five-year program.
Structure
120 credit points of subjects. Students complete an engineering major plus one of the science majors. All students must complete a minimum of 60 days of engineering professional practice during their studies and must hold a current Senior First Aid certificate at time of graduation.

- Year 12 or equivalent
- English (Unit 3/4,SA), Mathematical methods (Units3/4,C). Students considering the molecular and cell biology major will require chemistry (Units 3/4,C)

Study pathways
Engineering Honours is embedded in the course. Additional Science Honours study is offered to students who meet the stated criteria, and is available on a full or part-time basis.

Electronic systems and the internet of things major only available at Cairns campus. International student visa-holders must not enrol in more than a third of the total credit points for the course in online, distance or external study.
