Graduate Certificate in Diabetes Education

This program is designed for registered nurses, dieticians, podiatrists, pharmacists, exercise physiologists and general practitioners passionate about improving health outcomes for people living with diabetes in rural, remote, Indigenous and tropical Australia and the Asia-Pacific region. It is offered part-time with 4 core subjects completed in 1-2 years in flexible/limited attendance mode at the Cairns campus. Graduates will be well equipped to practice in the areas of diabetes prevention and management in a range of settings.

Australian: $12,620

Entry Requirements:

A Bachelor Degree (or qualifications recognised by the Division as equivalent) in a relevant clinical-based health, allied health or other relevant field, and at least 12 months work experience in that field since completing undergraduate studies.


12 credit points. Includes 60 hours of prescribed clinical placements. Students may be required to undertake such placements away from the campus at which they are enrolled, at their own expense. It is preferred that placement is completed in one location or clinical facility with one supervisor/credentialed Diabetes Educator preceptor. Students must also attend a 3-day residential school, held in April each year, for the purpose of acquiring and demonstrating core skills relevant to preparation for clinical placement and Diabetes Education practice. All students must demonstrate suitability before undertaking professional or clinical placements. This course is available part-time only.
