At the core of all of our colleges is a shared commitment to teaching and learning excellence and industry engagement, equipping our students with the knowledge, skills and attitude to excel in their chosen careers.

Jansen Newman Institute (JNI) is one of the oldest private providers of community serviceapplied psychotherapy and counselling education in Australia. JNI is based in Pyrmont, Sydney and offers programs for diplomas, degrees and masters qualifications — all of which are founded on providing the skills and experience to help people change their lives.

Benefit from JNI's experience and expertise

JNI has more than 35 years of experience in delivering industry accredited counselling and psychotherapy courses. All lecturers are highly experienced and widely recognised in their fields, and many are published authors. You will benefit from their current, real-world experience.

Gain practical work experience

JNI focuses on experiential learning and incorporates hands-on experience into each course. With the opportunity to apply your new skills and knowledge in a clinical context, you will gain valuable practical expertise and the confidence to succeed in the real world.

Affordable education

Almost every Australian citizen is eligible for government assistance through the VET FEE-HELP/ FEE-HELP programs. This means you do not have to pay anything upfront, but can pay for your course once you reach the income threshold.

Flexible study options

You can study part time or full time and even combine online study with on-campus study to suit your lifestyle. Find out about our flexible study options here.

Outstanding support and resources

JNI offers a high level of support to assist you in reaching your full potential and set goals. Course advisers and mentors are on hand to provide you with personalised support throughout the full duration of your course.

Central Sydney location

JNI is based at 235 Pyrmont Street, close to Sydney's CBD and Darling Harbour. As part of the Think Health campus, it is situated in one of the fastest-growing and most culturally diverse communities in Sydney. Our Pyrmont campus also includes The Wellbeing Clinic — our integrated student clinic servicing the public. This unique clinic offers a range of client treatments, from counselling sessions and naturopathy consultations to massage and beauty services, and it is where our students gain a great deal of their practical experience.

Name: Stephen Blood

Course: Bachelor of Applied Social Sciences

I had a long career in banking, it was a very well-paid job but I had a desire to work more directly with people. At the start of this year I left work and commenced full-time study at JNI. The thing that really drew me here in particular was the fact that JNI has a clinic, and having some online subjects provides me with a lot of flexibility — it fits around my own schedule and my life. JNI provides a learning environment where we have access to really fantastic lecturers, great experiences out in the working environment through placements and a fantastic group of fellow students. We learn together and I’ve really learnt a lot, not just from the content and the lecturers, but from the student body as well. I’ve built up some wonderful relationships that I think are going to be there for a long time.
