Delivered by Jansen Newman Institute (JNI), experts in counselling and psychotherapy education, this course provides students with a sound understanding of counselling and social science theories. Students will learn about social analysis, sociological theory, social research methods and social policy, plus gain an insight into human development and human behaviour. Upon graduation, they will be qualified for entry level roles in the counselling and community service sector, and be eligible to move into further study with advanced standing.

Standard entry requirements
- Year 12 or equivalent with ATAR 56. Special Entry Requirements: Demonstrated ability to undertake study at this level
- Or work experience, and/or other formal, informal or non-formal study attempted and/or completed. For international applicants equivalent IELTS 6.5 (Academic) with no skills band less than 5.5.
Once students complete the Diploma of Applied Social Science, they will be eligible to enrol in any of the following courses with advanced standing: Bachelor of Applied Social Science (Counselling), Bachelor of Applied Social Science (Community Services), Bachelor of Applied Social Science (Human Resource Management).
