You'll graduate from this double degree with over 1,800 hours of clinical placements, giving you the real-world experience to support new parents through some of life's most rewarding and challenging times. In this course you'll: Study a diverse, holistic range of subjects including Indigenous and intercultural health, midwifery care at all stages of pregnancy, acute nursing and mental health. Have the opportunity to undertake clinical opportunities in Sweden, Denmark and Nepal.

Structure

To qualify for the award of Bachelor of Nursing/Bachelor of Midwifery, students must complete 480 credit points consisting of: 480 core credit points Students must complete a minimum of 800 clinical hours in nursing subjects to be eligible for registration as a Registered Nurse. Students will attend a minimum of 100 antenatal visits with women. Under the supervision of a midwife, the student must act as the primary accoucher for 30 women who experience a spontaneous vaginal birth. Additionally, provide direct and indirect care to an additional 10 women throughout the first stage of labour, where possible, during birth (regardless of mode). Students will attend a minimum of 100 postnatal visits with women and, where possible, their babies. Students will gain experience in caring for 40 women with complex needs across pregnancy, labour, birth or the postnatal period. Students will undertake 20 full examinations of a newborn infant. Students must complete 10 Continuity of Care Experiences. A Continuity of Care Experience involves engaging with 10 women and attending four antenatal and two postnatal episodes of care and, for the majority of women, the labour and birth. Standard entry requirements

  • Recent secondary education - VTAC prerequisite: Year 12 English prerequisite (25) - Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or at least 25 in English other than EAL.

Recognition

The Bachelor of Nursing/Bachelor of Midwifery is accredited by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC).Graduates of the Bachelor of Nursing/Bachelor of Midwifery may be eligible to apply for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) as a nurse and midwife. This course has a clinical component. Students enrolled in the program will be registered as students, at no cost with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Please note the AHPRA standard of English language required to register as a nurse in Australia, introduced July 1, 2010. This course has limited opportunities for entry with advanced standing. Applicants may apply for entry including previous tertiary study, but offers may not include advanced standing for all previous subjects.
