This course gives graduate physiotherapists an opportunity to develop advanced theoretical and applied skills in sports physiotherapy, critical evaluation of relevant literature and research design. The flexible design of this course allows students to continue clinical work while studying. The qualification awarded on graduation is recognised in the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) as Level 8.
Structure
Students complete three core subjects. For the first subject, students need to complete 104 hours of accredited continuing education courses. These are run by external providers such as the Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA) or Sports Medicine Australia. The remaining subjects are taken online.

Standard entry requirements
- Bachelor of Physiotherapy or equivalent
- Full current Australian physiotherapy registration
- At least two years of sports clinical physiotherapy experience
- NB: Meeting minimum prerequisites does not guarantee an offer of a place. Entry into all La Trobe courses is based on competitive selection and there may be limited places available.
Study pathways
This course forms half of the requirements of the Master of Sports Physiotherapy.
