This course prepares students for a range of global sports industry careers. Learn to work with professional sports teams, manage relationships between athletes and the media, or run a sports business. Graduates will have the skills needed to be sport management leaders with professional sport teams, sports governing bodies, and at major sport events and venues. Graduates could also work in the private, non-profit and government sectors. Students will learn the foundations of business knowledge, before going on to sport management electives and a research thesis project as a pathway to a research degree. The course partners with the AFL Coaches Association and AFL Sports Ready. Students will also benefit from education and training partnerships with professional associations. For example, VicSport Professionals Network members can apply for our Industry Masters Scholarship.

Structure

Cognate students must complete 12 subjects totalling 180 credit points, including four core discipline specific subjects, four management core subjects and four elective subjects. Non-cognate students must complete 16 subjects totalling 240 credit points. This course uses case-study-based learning. Four foundation subjects are studied at the Melbourne Campus and the rest of the course can be completed at the City Campus on Collins Street in Melbourne's CBD. All sports and management core subjects are offered in block mode at the City Campus. Through accelerated block mode studies students can complete a subject in four days of face-to-face teaching.

  • An Australian Bachelor degree in any discipline or an approved equivalent qualification
  • Admission may be granted to applicants without an undergraduate degree but with a demonstrated minimum of at least five years relevant business experience
