To qualify for the award of Master of Health Information Management, students must have completed 240 credit points of study, comprised of: 225 credit points of core subjects 15 credit points of electives.

Standard entry requirements

  • Postgraduate: Prerequisites - Course specific requirements - 195 credit point pathway - COGNATE ENTRY (2 years) Successful completion of an Australian Graduate Certificate in Digital Health (HCDHBU or HCDHO) with 5 years of equivalent industry experience. 180 credit point pathway - COGNATE ENTRY (18 months) Successful completion of the Graduate Certificate Health Data Integrity and Auditing (HCHIA) with 5 years of coding related work experience and successful completion of a prescribed Coding Challenge exam. 180 credit point pathway - COGNATE ENTRY (18 months) Successful completion of the Graduate Certificate Health Data Integrity and Auditing (HCHIA) without 5 years of coding related work experience.
  • Postgraduate: Prerequisites - Undergraduate requirements - Successful completion of an Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent).
  • International: IELTS - 7.0 < 7.0 - 7.0 IELTS (Academic) with no individual band less than 7.0.

The Master of Health Information Management, offered on the Melbourne (Bundoora) campus is currently undergoing re-accreditation by the Health Information Management Association of Australia (HIMAA). Professional membership may require an application to the professional body and may have additional or ongoing requirements beyond completion of the degree. Students must undergo police checks prior to commencing clinical placements. Successful applicants who have not completed a degree in medicine, biomedical science, science (with studies in anatomy and physiology), dentistry, nursing, allied health or health sciences must do a Physiology & Anatomy bridging course as a foundation for further studies. Incoming full-time students must complete a 3-day Bridging Course in Health Classification & Clinical Coding, during Orientation Week.
