Master of Laws in Global Business Law

Explore key issues and challenges in commercial law and practice in areas of global interest. Students will learn from leading academics and commercial practitioners, building on their knowledge in areas like Asian or US law, or moving into an international business environment. In any semester, a minor thesis of 12,000 words equivalent to two subjects may be undertaken subject to approval.

Structure

  • Students complete 12 subjects over 18 months totalling 180 credit points, This includes 3-4 core subjects depending on previous studies, and elective subjects. These subjects will focus on areas of global interest, including international business and arbitration law, US business and corporations law, intellectual property law and Asian and European business law
  • but may also include subjects in alternative dispute resolution, comparative legal traditions, international human rights law, Australian and international criminal law and public interest law.

  • International students must meet the academic and English language requirements
  • NB: Meeting minimum prerequisites does not guarantee an offer of a place. Entry into all La Trobe courses is based on competitive selection and there may be limited places available.

Study pathways

The Law School may offer 60 credit points of Advanced Standing if students hold a TEQSA level eight qualification and/or if they have been admitted to practice as a barrister or solicitor in Australia or equivalent in their home jurisdiction. The program can then be completed in 12 months with 120 credit points (8 x 15 subjects). Advanced Standing applications will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis.
