This interdisciplinary double degree is ideal for those who wish to develop a substantial skillset in both psychology and speech, hearing and general linguistics in preparation for a career in the community and allied health sectors. The psychology component will develop your knowledge of the complexities of human behaviour - how development occurs, how personality forms, and how factors like society and culture affect behaviour. The linguistics component will develop your understanding of the production and perception of spoken language, such as the way we produce speech sounds using the vocal apparatus; the way the brain (via the ear) responds or fails to respond to different aspects of speech and language; how languages differ in the way they use speech; how language develops in children; the relationship between language and culture; and how computers can be used in speech, hearing and language analysis. You'll have the opportunity to gain relevant workplace experience in a professional or community setting that's relevant to community and allied health.
