The Diploma of Media and Communication introduces students to core knowledge and principles in media and communication, including international communications, media, politics and international relations. This diploma is equivalent to the first year of an undergraduate degree, and prepares students for entry into the second year of a Bachelor degree within the Faculty of Arts. Teaching and learning activities focus on assisting students to acquire academic knowledge and also the study skills needed to succeed in higher education in Australia. English language skills are integrated into the academic subjects to assist students to increase their confidence and competence.

Applicants must be at least 17 years of age, and have completed year 12 or an equivalent qualification (conditions apply, see Academic Requirements on the Macquarie website for further information).

Students who complete the diploma program, achieve the relevant grade point average (GPA out of 7) where relevant, and meet all entry requirements can choose from a number of undergraduate degrees offered by the Faculty of Arts, and progress directly into the second year of the degree.
