This course provides students with the knowledge and expertise in the area of human nutrition to equip them for potential employment within the public health sector, the food industry, nutrition research or government and non-government agencies. The course has a strong scientific and nutrition foundation in the first two years as students discover the scientific basis of nutrient requirements and healthy eating intertwined with practical elements such as assessing dietary intake, food chemistry and food composition, food skills and the food regulatory requirements that influence the food you eat every day. The final year focuses on developing research skills culminating in a nutrition-related research project encouraging the student to apply their principles of scientific inquiry. A choice of electives in year three including industry experience will enable the student to tailor the degree to their relevant interests.

Entry Requirements:

Year 12 or equivalent; Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 35 in English (EAL) or 30 in any other English and a study score of at least 25 in chemistry or biology.

Students who would like to further their academic career may wish to consider taking for the Master of Dietetics at Monash. On completion of the Bachelor of Nutrition Science at Monash University, students will be eligible to apply for entry into the Master of Dietetics. As a Monash Nutrition Science graduate, this program can be completed in only 18 months (three semesters).

Recognition:

As a graduate, students may be eligible to apply for registration as a nutritionist through the Nutrition Society of Australia, the peak body recognising the highest professional standards in nutrition. The Bachelor of Nutrition Science at Monash is the only program in Australia accredited with The UK Association for Nutrition (AfN). Graduates are eligible to register as Associate Nutritionist in the UK and recognised in the UK and Europe for employment.
