This qualification is part of the Automotive Retail, Service and Repair Training Package. It reflects the role of individuals who perform a broad range of tasks on a variety of light vehicles in the automotive retail, service and repair industry.

Entry Requirements:

No minimum education


36 units: 20 core; 16 elective

Subjects you can Study:

Core: Test and repair basic electrical circuits; Test, charge and replace batteries and jump-start vehicles; Diagnose and repair light vehicle engines; Inspect and service braking systems; plus more. Electives: Depower and reinitialise battery electric vehicles; Repair wiring harnesses and looms; Machine brake drums and brake disc rotors; Inspect and service automatic transmissions; Carry out oxyacetylene welding, thermal heating and cutting; plus more.

Established in 1910, the Motor Traders' Association of NSW (MTA) is a Registered Training Organisation offering a range of traineeships and apprenticeships to automotive businesses across NSW. We deliver flexible training, and specialise in workplace delivery across NSW and the ACT. Traineeships are available in: Automotive Sales; Automotive Sales (Parts Interpreting); Automotive Administration and Automotive Tyre Servicing. MTA NSW also offers apprenticeships in the areas of: Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology; Heavy Vehicle Mechanical Technology; Automotive Electrical Technology; Automotive Underbody Technology; Automotive Body Repair Technology - Panel beating; Automotive Refinishing Technology - Spray Painting and Automotive Sales (Parts Interpreting).
