If you're fascinated by medical science and scientific experimentation, completing a degree in Biomedical Science will give you the knowledge and laboratory skills you'll need to pursue a rewarding career where you make new medical discoveries and breakthroughs in understanding human diseases. Murdoch has recently been ranked well above world standard in Clinical Sciences and Medical Microbiology and above world standard in Immunology and Genetics. At the end of the course you'll get to integrate and see the cutting-edge applications of what you've learnt as well as be introduced to future career pathways in the capstone unit 'Advances in Medical Science'. When you graduate you could pursue a career as a medical researcher, medical biotechnologist or laboratory technician in hospitals, medical research institutes, universities or in a range of roles in various health related fields. In addition, there are numerous opportunities to take on higher studies and complete a research qualification as part of an Honours year, followed by higher-level Masters or PhD research.

In this course, you'll explore a variety of disciplines including physiology, microbiology, immunology, cell biology, biochemistry and pathology. You'll also have the opportunity to broaden your scope by including other areas of study such as anatomy, parasitology, haematology, histology and pharmacology. To expand your expertise and career prospects even further, you can combine this course as a double major. Recommended majors with Biomedical Science include Genetics and Molecular Biology, Clinical Laboratory Science and Forensic Biology and Toxicology.
