In this course you will learn about the sustainability issues affecting us all, including climate change, scarce resources and the challenge of balancing economic growth with protecting the environment. You will develop analytic and communication skills and gain practical experience with industry professionals as part of your studies. You can take advantage of career opportunities in a rapidly expanding field, especially if you combine your Sustainable Development major with another discipline. Recommended double majors include Community Development, Tourism and Events or International Aid and Development. When you graduate, you could pursue a career as an urban planner, promoting the best use of a community's land and resources for residential, commercial, institutional, and recreational purposes. You could work as an environment ecologist, examining the relationships between organisms and their environments in relation to population size, pollutants, rainfall, temperature and altitude. Or you could work as a forester, balancing the need to conserve forested ecosystems for future generations with the need to use forest resources for recreational or economic purposes.
