This qualification is part of the Metal and Engineering Training Package. It is for people entering employment in manufacturing, engineering and related industry areas. Students will gain the basic competencies required to work as an operator in these areas. Students will acquire skills and knowledge in workplace communication, occupational health and safety, quality procedures and planning, plus some skills in a production or process area relevant to their current or intended employment. Specialisations available include assembly, casting and moulding, fabrication, forging, machine and process operation, surface finishing, materials handling, measurement, maintenance, jewellery, locksmithing, marine craft construction and boating service.

Electives: Perform manual production assembly; Perform precision assembly; Perform general woodworking machine operations; Prepare and mix sand for metal moulding; Perform routine manual metal arc welding; Perform soft soldering; Perform hand forging; Operate and monitor machine/process; Use workshop machines for basic operations; Manually finish/polish materials; Apply protective coatings (basic); Undertake warehouse receival process; Handle/move bulk fluids/gases; Perform electrical/electronic measurement; Work safely with industrial chemicals and materials; Perform basic statistical quality control; plus more.
