This qualification is part of the Metal and Engineering Training Package. It is for boat building and shipwright apprentices, or people who have entered into a relevant contract of training. Students will acquire skills and knowledge in workplace communication, occupational health and safety, quality procedures and planning, plus a range of specific industry skills in a marine craft construction trade area.

Entry Requirements:

No minimum education. Relevant employment required.

Structure:

11 core units; plus Marine Craft Construction stream and elective units to the value of 76 points

Core: Perform engineering measurements; Perform computations; Apply principles of occupational health and safety in the work environment; Plan to undertake a routine task; Plan a complete activity; Apply quality procedures; Apply quality systems; Organise and communicate information; Work with others in a manufacturing, engineering or related environment; Interact with computing technology; Assist in the provision of on the job training. Stream: Perform general woodworking machine operations; Perform operational maintenance of machines/equipment; Operate and monitor machine/process; Pre-treat work for subsequent surface coating; Prepare surfaces using solvents and/or mechanical means; plus more. Electives: Perform general woodworking machine operations; Interpret technical drawing; Mark off/out structural fabrications and shapes; Work safely with industrial chemicals and materials; Use hand tools; plus more.
