This qualification is part of the Sport, Fitness and Recreation Training Package. It reflects the role of individuals who apply the skills and knowledge to undertake a role as a coach. Likely functions for someone with this qualification include observing the performance of sports participants to determine the required level of instruction, and planning, conducting and evaluating individualised and team based training programs. Those with this qualification would also supervise practice sessions and provide in competition assistance to participants. Sports include: Basketball; Cricket; Competitive Canoeing; Equestrian; Gymnastics; Rugby League; Rugby Union; Surf Life Saving; Squash; Surfing; Swimming; Tennis; Touch Football and Volleyball.

Structure:

15 units: 9 core; 6 elective

Subjects you can Study:

Core: Provide first aid; Develop and update knowledge of coaching practices; Coach beginner or novice participants to develop fundamental motor skills; Plan and deliver coaching programs; Customise coaching for athletes with specific needs; Communicate effectively with others in a sport environment; Maintain sport, fitness and recreation equipment for activities; Undertake risk analysis of activities; Manage conflict. Electives: Teach intermediate level basketball skills; Teach the intermediate skills and tactics of whitewater canoeing; Provide daily care for horses; Sail a small boat in light to moderate conditions; plus more.
