This degree is offered as a double major BA (Fine Art and Visual Culture), or a single major BA (Fine Art) or BA (Visual Culture). The Fine Art major draws upon the diverse and complex traditions of Fine Art calling for a high degree of self-discipline, capacity for self-criticism and dedication to the demanding profession of being an artist. This course aims to produce highly accomplished and knowledgeable graduates able to contribute to the artistic, aesthetic and social needs of contemporary society. The Visual Culture major (history and theories of Art and Design) provides practical training in critical understandings of how visual culture structures and informs our world. Students are also trained in practices of seeing and representation through technical and intuitive skills based in drawing. These courses offer a broad experience in visual arts and enable students to engage with a multitude of specified online learning resources. Students will have access to an online art image database, examples of artwork presentations for assessment, submission guidelines and technical expertise.

Entry Requirements:

There are no educational prerequisites, no limits on numbers and no requirements to attend lectures


(For the double major) 24 units: 4 level 1 core Humanities units; 4 level 1 major units; 8 level 2 major units; 8 level 3 major units; and at least 8 Curtin University units applicable to Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
