The Bachelor of Education (ECE) prepares graduates to work in either early learning centres (0-3 years) or in the early years of schooling (4-8 years). The course is largely sequential and developmental in nature. The first year of the course focuses on the 0-3 years age group and culminates in the completion of a four week block practicum of professional experience in an early learning centre. Years 2-4 build on this base and cover the areas of theory and curriculum which articulate with planned professional experiences (practicum) placements in schools.

  • 4 units requiring professional experience within an early learning centre or school

Standard entry requirements

  • Year 12 or equivalent
  • Or Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT)
  • Or Certificate IV in Childrens Services (or equivalent)
  • Or completion of two of the six OUA open enrolment units: EDE101, EDE102, EDE103, EDE105, EDE106 and EDP130
  • Or completion of 4 standard units towards an undergraduate degree at an Australian University
  • Police Clearance/Working with Children (WWC)
  • First Aid Certificate
  • Access to more than one school in which to undertake the professional experience placements

Recognition

Graduates will be eligible for registration with the Western Australian College of Teachers (WACOT). Registration will be recognised by all national teacher accreditation authorities.
