Queensland Agricultural Training Colleges

This qualification provides a general vocational outcome in agriculture. The qualification enables individuals to select a livestock production, cropping or livestock context as a job focus or, in the case of mixed farming enterprises, both cropping and livestock. Individuals with this qualification perform tasks in a variety of contexts, which involve some judgement in selecting equipment and services. Job roles vary across different industry sectors and may include: Farm or station hand, Farm or station worker and Livestock transport driver.

Entry Requirements:

No minimum education. Prerequisite units may apply to some electives.

16 units: 2 core;14 elective

Core: Apply environmentally sustainable work practices; Contribute to work health and safety processes. Electives: Test grains and seeds on receival; Work effectively in an emergency disease or plant pest response; Keep production records for a primary production business; Use hand held e-business tools; Prepare and apply chemicals; Maintain and monitor animal health and wellbeing; Collect semen; Install drainage systems; Install hydroponic systems; Conduct dropped ovary technique procedures for spaying cattle; plus more.

Queensland Agricultural Training Colleges is a Registered Training Organisation that provides training in a wide range of agricultural specialisations across a range of geographic and climatic regions throughout Queensland. The College was formed as a result of the merger of Dalby Agricultural College, Longreach Pastoral College, Emerald Agricultural College and the Australian College of Tropical Agriculture (Burdekin Agricultural College and Mareeba Environmental College). The College offers training in agriculture, horticulture and production horticulture, rural business management, automotive and engineering programs as well as conservation and land management. Other available training and qualifications include traineeships, apprenticeships, short and specialist courses, and tailored training for schools, business and industry.
