This double degree program provides a substantial foundation in both social work and psychology. Graduates may work in professional practice in a wide variety of settings. In particular, the course equips graduates to work in areas such as mental health, drug and alcohol prevention and intervention, and in the development and delivery of community services, counselling and family-centred intervention.

Recognition

The Bachelor of Behavioural Science (Psychology) is accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council. To pursue a career in a professional area of psychology, you will need to undertake further study to gain registration with the Psychology Board of Australia. This is an Australian Association of Social Workers accredited qualification. It is an entry qualification into the social work profession and has been determined to meet the Australian Social Work Education and Accreditation Standards.

Study pathways

Students considering registration with Psychology Board of Australia must also complete an approved fourth year of study in psychology, (e.g. Bachelor of Behavioural Science (Honours Psychology) and a further 2 years of either supervised work experience or completion of an appropriate higher degree (e.g. Master of Psychology (Educational and Developmental), Master of Clinical Psychology. Students may be able to claim credit for part of their course, on the basis of completed or partially completed studies, and other assessable learning outcomes.
