This double degree program in biomedical science with business prepares graduates to work as part of multidisciplinary teams in biomedical research, development and commercialisation.

Year 12 or equivalent; Assumed Knowledge: English (4,SA), Maths B (4,SA), and Chemistry (4,SA)

Structure:

384 credit points. Foundation studies in anatomy, pathology, physiology, biological chemistry, biomedical physics and cell biology provide a knowledge base for Years 2 and 3 when students choose to major in 1 of the following study areas: anatomical sciences, human biochemistry, human physiology, infection and immunity, and cell and molecular biology. There is the opportunity to undertake two minor areas of study and students may choose to complement scientific studies with units in exercise physiology, Indigenous issues, psychology, public health, or ethical issues related to gene technology. The Bachelor of Business component requires a total of 192 credit points as follows: Business core units (8 units - 96 credit points), Business Major (8 units - 96 credit points).

Study Pathways:

Graduates may apply to undertake an Honours year in the Faculty of Health or the QUT Business School. Students may be able to claim advanced standing for part of their course, on the basis of completed or partially completed studies, and other assessable learning outcomes.

Students will also require Hepatitis B vaccination prior to commencing the laboratory components in this course. Diphtheria, Measles, Mumps, Pertussis (Whooping Cough), Rubella, Tetanus and Varicella (Chicken Pox) vaccinations are mandatory for all students attending a Queensland Health facility for placement. Hepatitis A, Influenza and Poliomyelitis are highly recommended for all Health students. QUT offers a range of scholarships that provide real support for students. Applicants who receive an OP 1-5 or equivalent are guaranteed an offer for this course in the major offer round.
