This double degree increases career options across communication and information technology fields. The communication program prepares students for professional roles in the rapidly evolving communication industries. The program analyses and seeks new applications for mass and niche media operations as well as recently evolved areas such as social media. Students gain exposure to a broad range of communication literacies and local and international communication platforms through on-campus learning, international study experiences and engagement with world-leading research. Students will understand the importance of cultural diversity, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives, in national and globalised communications environments. In the information technology program, students explore a wide range of areas such as networking, software engineering, data warehousing, business process modelling, enterprise systems, information management, web technologies, or digital societies. Work Integrated Learning (WIL) and international exchanges provide opportunities to network and receive first-hand industry experience.

Year 12, or equivalent; Assumed knowledge: English (4,SA); Maths A, B or C (4,SA)

Structure:

384 credit points (32 units). Communication component: 192 credit points (16 units); 4 core units and 12 major units. Information Technology component: 192 credit points (16 units); 6 core units, 10 major units.

Study Pathways:

Pathways to the Bachelor of Information Technology (Honours), Master of Information Technology, Master of Teaching (Secondary) or Master of Philosophy are available. Students may be able to claim advanced standing for part of their course, on the basis of completed or partially completed studies, and other assessable learning outcomes.
