This program prepares students to teach across prep to year 6 in primary schools. Students develop a range of skills which in combination with professional experience and personal qualities will equip them for a variety of careers.

Entry Requirements:

Year 12 or equivalent; Prerequisites: English (4,SA) and Maths A, B or C (4,SA) and at least one of Agricultural Science, Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, Marine Science, Marine Studies, Physics or Science 21 (4,SA). Applicants must submit a statement addressing suitability criteria.

Structure:

The 384 credit point course consists of curriculum studies covering all key learning areas, education-related studies and professional experience units where students will undertake practical supervised professional experience in a range of settings. The opportunity exists to obtain a specialisation.

QUT offers a range of scholarships that provide real support for students. Applicants who receive an OP 1-5 or equivalent, and meet the course prerequisites are guaranteed an offer for this course in the major offer round. Students will need to be issued with a blue card prior to having contact with children as part of this course. Successful completion of the National Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education Students is a graduation requirement.

Recognition:

The course is currently being considered for further accreditation with the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) and Queensland College of Teachers (QCT). Graduates looking for employment in other parts of Australia and overseas may be required to meet additional conditions.
