This double degree allows students to combine their interests in education and business. Students undertake professional placement as part of the education component of the course, gaining the hands-on-experience to succeed in their teaching career. In the business degree, students undertake a broad-based introduction and an eight major units in a choice of ten business disciplines. The business component offers many practical opportunities, including internships and career preparation workshops. Graduates can work as secondary school teachers in two teaching areas, one being business and one being English, geography, history or mathematics. Graduates can also work as accountants, marketers, economists and managers, trainers in industry, or educational leaders. Entrepreneurial capabilities can equip graduates to develop enterprises for social benefit or products for the education profession.

Recognition

This course meets professional teaching standards for the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership, and Queensland College of Teachers and graduates are eligible to apply for teacher registration. Graduates looking for employment in other parts of Australia and overseas may be required to meet additional conditions. Pathways to the Master of Education or Master of Philosophy are available. Students may be able to claim advanced standing for part of their course, on the basis of completed or partially completed studies, and other assessable learning outcomes. QUT advanced standing rules apply.

QUT offers a range of scholarships that provide real support for students. Applicants who receive an ATAR 93.00 or equivalent, and meet the course prerequisites are guaranteed an offer for this course in the January offer round. Our offer guarantee can give you peace of mind about your study choices. If you receive an ATAR or selection rank equal to or higher than the offer guarantee, you are guaranteed a place in the course regardless of the threshold. This means that when you know your ATAR or selection rank, you can check your eligibility for a QUT course before receiving an offer. You still need to lodge a QTAC application by the closing date. Students will need to be issued with a blue card prior to having contact with children as part of this course if studying in Queensland or completing international professional experience. For other Australian states and territories students must fulfil that state or territory's requirements for working with children. Students will need to successfully complete the National Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education Students to graduate from the course. Students are permitted three test attempts in total for each component as a student at QUT. Students are not eligible to apply for a place in the course if they have failed two test attempts for one or more components, at another institution. QUT provides students with one reimbursement to cover the cost of the test.
