This modified program allows students who already hold a degree to complete the requirements for registration as a nurse in a minimum of 2 years full-time study. In order to complete the course in 2 years, clinical practice is undertaken during normal semester breaks.

The clinical practice units in the nursing component require students to undertake block practicums of two or more weeks, which may be scheduled during semester breaks.

Standard entry requirements

A completed recognised bachelor degree (or equivalent) not in nursing with a minimum volume of learning of 1.00 year full-time (or equivalent) completed within the past ten years. If you have completed your degree more than ten years ago you must provide evidence with your QTAC application of further studies of a recognised graduate certificate (or higher) studies undertaken in the last ten years.

Recognition

This course has professional accreditation from the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council. Graduates are eligible to apply for registered nurse status with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and membership of the Australian College of Nursing

Study pathways

Students are awarded the equivalent of one year of advanced standing and complete the course in two years.

Further information

Hepatitis B vaccination, CPR certification and a current Blue Card prior to commencing the clinical placement components in this course. Diphtheria, Measles, Mumps, Pertussis (Whooping Cough), Rubella, Tetanus and Varicella (Chicken Pox) vaccinations are mandatory for all students attending a Queensland Health facility for placement. Hepatitis A, Influenza and Poliomyelitis are highly recommended for all Health students. QUT offers a range of scholarships that provide real support for commencing and continuing students.
