This program has been designed in consultation with the pharmacy profession to capture the latest practices and emerging trends in community and hospital pharmacy. Graduates may be employed in community pharmacies, hospitals, the pharmaceutical industry and in drug regulatory and research roles, or alternatively they will be well equipped to proceed to postgraduate studies in pharmacy-related areas.

Year 12 or equivalent; Assumed knowledge: English (4, SA), Maths B (4, SA), and Chemistry (4, SA)


384 credit points in a set program of study. This is a four-year course including pharmacy practice, pharmaceutics, prescribing, pharmacology and drug metabolism. Professional practice units are undertaken in QUT's dispensary and counselling facilities before a series of professional placements in community and hospital pharmacies.

Students may be able to claim advanced standing for part of their course on the basis of completed or partially completed studies and other assessable learning outcomes.

Further information:

Hepatitis B vaccination; CPR certification; a current Blue Card prior to commencing placement. Diphtheria, Measles, Mumps, Pertussis (Whooping Cough), Rubella, Tetanus and Varicella (Chicken Pox) vaccinations are mandatory for all students attending a Queensland Health facility for placement. Hepatitis A, Influenza and Poliomyelitis are highly recommended for all Health students. QUT offers a range of scholarships that provide real support for students. Applicants who receive an OP 1-5 or equivalent are guaranteed an offer for this course in the major offer round.


Following graduation, approximately 12 months of pre-registration training performed under the supervision of a registered pharmacist is required to meet the registration requirements of the Pharmacists Board of Queensland. Graduates will be eligible for membership of a number of professional associations, including the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia (PSA), the Pharmacy Guild and the Society of Hospital Pharmacists of Australia (SHPA).
