This double degree increases career options across communication and justice fields. The communication component prepares students for professional roles in the rapidly evolving communication industries. Students gain exposure to a broad range of communication literacies and local and international communication platforms through on-campus learning, international study experiences and engagement with world-leading research. Students will understand the importance of cultural diversity, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives, in national and globalised communications environments. The justice component prepares students to make contributions in the operation of, and development of law enforcement and justice administration. The Criminology and Policing major includes criminology, policing, correctional services and crime prevention. The Policy and Governance major includes policy analysis and the intricacies of how government officers research, analyse, recommend and develop policies in the justice sphere. Students have the opportunity to develop professional expertise by applying their knowledge and skills in authentic industry settings.

Structure

  • 384 credit points (32 units). Communication component: 192 credit points (16 units)
  • 4 core units and 12 major units. Justice component: 192 credit points (16 units)
  • 8 core units and 8 major units. Students undertake the two components of the double degree concurrently.

Journalism: Australian Journalists' Association (AJA) section of the Media, Entertainment and Arts Alliance (MEAA). Justice: State and Federal Law enforcement; Government departments such as Correctional Services, Immigration and Border Protection, Defence and Protective and Security Services.

Study pathways

Pathways to the Master of Teaching (Secondary) or Master of Philosophy or Bachelor of Justice (Honours). Students may be able to claim advanced standing for part of their course, on the basis of completed or partially completed studies, and other assessable learning outcomes. QUT advanced standing rules apply.
