Combine education and creative writing for a career in teaching. Explore opportunities in education or create content for creative industries. You will complete the requirements for two separate degrees in four and a half years. The course consists of units in fine arts and education. Students are prepared as teachers with specialist understandings for secondary school learners in two teaching and learning discipline areas, with one teaching area being English, which is determined by your fine arts major, creative writing. For the other teaching area you can choose one of: geography; history or mathematics. QUT offers the largest and most comprehensive undergraduate creative writing course in South-East Queensland with the broadest range of units on offer.Within the Bachelor of Fine Arts structure, you will gain the deepest possible access to this knowledge. You will graduate with advanced writing and communication capabilities as well as analytic and editorial experience.You will work intensively on your writing in a number of forms and genres including novels, short stories, creative non-fiction, youth writing, media writing, poetry, digital media, editing and scriptwriting and new and emergent forms. In addition, you will build specialist writing skills for professional applications via deep engagement with industry contexts. You can also undertake project work to write a sustained work in a genre of your choice.The course is taught by highly experienced published authors and scholars. Visits and guest lectures from writers, editors and publishers will help you gain a unique perspective on writing as a vocation and provide access to the industry and national writing communities.A thriving on-campus literary culture and connections with festivals and local publishing houses will keep you connected with fellow travelers and industry tastemakers as you develop your craft.

Structure

In order to complete this course, you must complete a total of 432 credit points, made up of 240 credit points from the Bachelor of Education (Secondary) and 192 credit points from the Bachelor of Fine Arts.
