If you are looking for a challenging, creative and artistic dance course that will also open up a range of career options, then this is for you. From your first year you will learn the fundamentals of choreography, dance history and dance analysis as well as collaborate in the creation and presentation of student work. You’ll also begin to explore all the creative career options on offer for you.Your studies will then progress to understanding advanced choreographic practice, composition and where appropriate, the application of these in a range of contexts, as well as introducing studies from your other areas of interest you have chosen.In your third and final year you’ll tailor your course to transition towards your future career by choosing to work on real industry projects, work integrated learning or undertake study tours.

Structure

  • To meet the course requirements of the Bachelor of Fine Arts (Dance), you must complete the following: Two common units (KYB101 and KYB102) – 24 credit points
  • Dance major – 168 credit points
  • Complementary studies – 48 credit points from the Situated Creative Practice Extension plus 48 credit points chosen from a minor or unit options (electives).

Standard entry requirements

Before you start this course, we assume you have sound knowledge of the subject/s listed below. If you don't have the subject knowledge, you can still apply for the course but we strongly encourage you to undertake bridging studies to gain the knowledge:English, or Literature, or English and Literature Extension, or English as an Additional Language (Units 3 & 4, C)

Study pathways

This course can be followed with a graduate-entry teacher education course, which enables students to become qualified teachers. Pathways to the Master of Philosophy are also available. With further specialist training, students could extend their dance studies into areas such as dance therapy, dance science and dance medicine. Students may be able to claim advanced standing for part of their course, on the basis of completed or partially completed studies, and other assessable learning outcomes.
