Our double degree in human services and business will prepare you for work with organisations that provide public, non-government and private services such as child and family, disability support and health services. In the business component, you may choose a major in accounting, advertising, economics, finance, financial planning, human resource management, international business, management, marketing or public relations. This course has a strong focus on contemporary social issues. You will develop skills in casework and case management, social policy processes, group and team practice skills, advanced communication, community work, and understanding families and relationships. You will complete over 500 hours of human services placement during this course, meaning you'll gain the hands-on experience you need to build a successful career. During placement, you will further develop your assessment and intervention skills and develop your own practice framework.

Structure

  • The structure of the Human Services component consists of 120 credit points of core human services studies, 48 credit points of professional practice studies and 24 credit points of human services elective studies. The structure of the Business component consists of at least 72 credit points of business core units and a major of up to 120 credit points, depending on the major selected

  • Year 12 or equivalent
  • Before you start this course, we assume you have sound knowledge of the subject/s listed below. If you don't have the subject knowledge, you can still apply for the course but we strongly encourage you to undertake bridging studies to gain the knowledge: English, or Literature, or English and Literature Extension, or English as an Additional Language (Units 3 & 4, C). And for Accounting, Finance, Economics and Marketing majors: General Mathematics, or Mathematical Methods, or Specialist Mathematics (Units 3 & 4, C).

Graduates are eligible to apply for membership of the Australian Community Workers Association. Further information

Students require a current Blue Card and may require Hepatitis B vaccination prior to commencing the placement components in this course. Diphtheria, Measles, Mumps, Pertussis (Whooping Cough), Rubella, Tetanus and Varicella (Chicken Pox) vaccinations are mandatory for all students attending a Queensland Health facility for placement. Hepatitis A, Influenza and Poliomyelitis are highly recommended for all Health students. QUT offers a range of scholarships that provide real support for commencing and continuing students. Individual faculties also offer support through prizes, awards and bursaries that reward and encourage student effort through the generous support of individuals, industry and government sponsors. Our offer guarantee can give you peace of mind about your study choices. If you receive an ATAR or selection rank equal to or higher than the offer guarantee, you are guaranteed a place in the course regardless of the threshold. This means that when you know your ATAR or selection rank you can check your eligibility for a QUT course before receiving an offer. You still need to lodge a QTAC application by the closing date. A small number of courses do not participate in the offer guarantee scheme.
