This program enables students to undertake a course which balances the development of clinical skills with theoretical study. Foundation studies build students' knowledge in key areas of anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology, and will introduce students to professional nursing practice and contemporary healthcare service. Students will also develop an understanding of pharmacology with an emphasis on quality use of medicines. During the course students undertake periods of clinical practice to prepare them for transition to the role of a registered nurse. Studies are undertaken both within the University and at a selection of hospitals and community facilities.
Structure
288 credit points. The clinical practice units in the nursing component require students to undertake block practicums of two or more weeks, which may be scheduled during semester breaks.

Recognition
This course has professional accreditation from the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council. Graduates are eligible to apply for registered nurse status with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and membership of the Australian College of Nursing
Study pathways
Students who have completed an undergraduate degree within the last 10 years should apply for the graduate entry program. Advanced standing is available to applicants with a degree in another discipline and TAFE trained enrolled nurses.

Hepatitis B vaccination, CPR certification and a current Blue Card prior to commencing the clinical placement components in this course. Diphtheria, Measles, Mumps, Pertussis (Whooping Cough), Rubella, Tetanus and Varicella (Chicken Pox) vaccinations are mandatory for all students attending a Queensland Health facility for placement. Hepatitis A, Influenza and Poliomyelitis are highly recommended for all Health students. QUT offers a range of scholarships that provide real support for students.
