Dietitians use their advanced knowledge in the science of nutrition to advise on appropriate diet, food preparation and menu planning to treat nutrition-related disease. Accredited practising dietitians often work alongside health professionals in hospitals and community settings delivering individual dietary counselling, medical nutrition therapy and group dietary therapy. Their work contributes to the promotion of health, the prevention and treatment of disease such as diabetes and cancer, and optimal health maintenance. The honours component of this course offers you a competitive advantage in the workplace. You will become a critical thinker with a strong foundation in research, and develop advanced skills to lead in a profession where responsibilities and capabilities are expanding.

Recognition
This course is accredited by the Dietitians Australia and graduates are eligible to apply for the Accredited Practising Dietitian credential. APD status is a requirement for medical benefit rebates. Graduates can apply for membership of the Dietitians Australia, the Public Health Association of Australia, Sports Medicine Australia, the Nutrition Society and other bodies. Clinical dietitians can work in hospitals or outpatient settings or in private practice with individual clients or groups to help treat or manage their disease. Foodservice dietitians work in many setting to provide safe and nutritious foods.
Study pathways
Graduates with a first- or second-class division A Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics (Honours) degree may be eligible to enter IF49 Doctor of Philosophy. Admission to the PhD depends on an applicant's demonstrated research aptitude and the availability of supervision, infrastructure and resources needed for the proposed research project.

Blue Card; tuberculosis screening; Hepatitis B vaccination. Diphtheria, Measles, Mumps, Pertussis (Whooping Cough), Rubella, Tetanus and Varicella (Chicken Pox) vaccinations are mandatory for all students attending a Queensland Health facility for placement.
