This program gives graduates an understanding of human anatomy, biochemistry and physiology, nutrition education, and health needs of specific populations.As a health qualification, the Bachelor of Nutrition Science allows entry to general health-related positions and to graduate teaching programs. Graduates of Nutrition Science work in areas including education in community health centres, government institutions, industry, education and research. Nutritionists use expertise in nutrition to promote and improve the health of individuals and communities. As community or public health workers, nutritionists attempt to improve the dietary patterns and habits of groups or populations through education, training and promotion. Practitioners work as consumer and public health specialists, food advertising consultants, food educators, product developers, and by promoting nutrition through the media as food journalists and editors.
288 credit points including 12 credit points of professional placement studies and 48 credit points of specified elective studies.
Standard entry requirements
- Year 12 or equivalent
- Assumed knowledge: English, or Literature, or English and Literature, or English as an Additional Language (Units 3 & 4, C)
- Mathematical Methods or Specialist Mathematics (Units 3 & 4, C) and Chemistry (Units 3 & 4, C).
Graduates are eligible to apply for membership of the Public Health Association of Australia and the Nutrition Society.
Students may be able to claim advanced standing for part of their course, on the basis of completed or partially completed studies, and other assessable learning outcomes.

Blue Card, tuberculosis screening and Hepatitis B vaccination. Diphtheria, Measles, Mumps, Pertussis (Whooping Cough), Rubella, Tetanus and Varicella (Chicken Pox) vaccinations are mandatory for all students attending a Queensland Health facility for placement. Hepatitis A, Influenza and Poliomyelitis are highly recommended for all Health students. QUT offers a range of scholarships that provide real support for students.
