This program provides graduates an opportunity to complete a qualification in social work. Students will develop knowledge, skills and values for practice and will undertake study in casework practice; assessment and intervention; practice frameworks; political economy and policy making; ethical and legal contexts of practice; and research methods and implementation. It is designed to produce graduates who will work with individuals, families, groups and communities to address social issues and achieve positive change. It requires a genuine commitment to promoting social change, social cohesion and empowerment with a diverse group of people.
Graduates of 3 year degrees in other disciplines seeking a qualification in social work and graduates of the QUT Bachelor of Human Services or equivalent
192 credit points. The course blends campus and online learning with supervised field placements of 1000 hours. This includes a requirement to attend sessions during Orientation Week. All commencing students will need to ensure they are available to attend. The course consists of 12 units and can be studied full-time or part-time. Students are required to attend compulsory on-campus sessions each semester.

Standard entry requirements
A completed recognised bachelor degree other than social work which includes the equivalent of one year (8 units) of full-time studies in social sciences such as Psychology, Education, Law and Human Services
Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
Students who have completed 48 credit points within the course can exit with a Graduate Certificate in Social Care (exit only course). Students who have completed 96 credit points within the course can exit with a Graduate Diploma in Social Care (exit only course).
