Ramsden Telecommunications Training

This qualification is part of the Information and Communications Technology Training Package. It prepares individuals for entry into the telecommunications industry and its convergent technologies, including radio, optical, data and internet protocol (IP) networks. It reflects the role of an operator in the telecommunications industry who can apply a broad range of competencies using a defined range of skills where some discretion and judgement is required in the selection, installation and configuration of equipment in convergence technologies that integrate radio, optical and IP based applications. Duties may include assessing installation requirements, planning and performing installations, testing installed equipment and fault finding. It involves a degree of autonomy and may include some supervision of others. Work is performed according to known routines and procedures and some accountability for the quality of outcomes. Specialist streams are available in: Optical Networks; Cabling Networks; Radio Communications; Telecommunications Networking.

Entry Requirements:

No minimum education. Prerequisite units may apply.

Structure:

16 units: 7 core; 9 elective

Subjects you can Study:

Core: Locate and identify cable system faults; Install and test internet protocol devices in convergence networks; Install telecommunications network equipment; Use electrical skills in telecommunications work; Use hand and power tools; Follow WHS and environmental policy and procedures; Work effectively in telecommunications technology. Plus electives.

Further information:

Cabling at customer premises must be carried out according to requirements of the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) and relevant industry registration bodies, and in line with the specifications of the access network owner. Refer to "Pathways to ACMA Cabling Provider Rules - Cabling registration" and mandatory industry practical hours required for registration.
