In the Associate Degree in Information Technology you will gain the practical and theoretical skills required to enter the computer industry through a blend of theory and hands-on subjects in hardware and software, networking, database concepts and java programming. You will learn to solve practical problems with laboratory work as a major component. As a graduate you can specialise in system administration, networking, technical support, computer programming, web development, database administration, software development, and IT security.

Entry Requirements:

Year 12 prerequisite units 3 and 4 - a study score of at least 25 in English (ESL) or at least 20 in any other English and a study score of at least 20 in mathematics (any)


In the first year of this program you will be introduced to a wide range of Information Technology industry areas including computer technology, programming, web and networking. In the second year of this program builds on the knowledge gained from first year to industry level requirements with additional electives to facilitate student preferences in the Information Technology sector

Subjects you can Study:

Computer systems and platform technologies, Databases, Networking, Programming (Java), Software development, Software engineering, Unix essentials and Windows system administration, Virtualisation, Web programming.

Study Pathways:

Graduates who achieve a grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.0 out of 4.0 are guaranteed entry with two years of credit (equivalent to 192 credit points) into one of the following degrees: Bachelor of Information Technology, Bachelor of Technology (Computing Studies). Please note the amount of time required to complete the above programs may exceed one year due to the availability and sequencing of some major electives and is also dependent on which semester you commence the program. Graduates who achieve a (GPA) of at least 3.0 out of 4.0 may be eligible for some credit into the following programs, if successful in gaining a place: Bachelor of Computer Science, Bachelor of Information Technology (Games and Graphics Programming), Bachelor of Software Engineering

This qualification provides the skills and knowledge required to successfully manage IT operations, particularly in a small to medium business. Graduates are prepared for a career specialising in networking, software development or IT security for small and medium enterprises (SMEs): network specialist; network operations analyst; network manager; systems administrator; systems engineer/management; client server administrator.


Graduates from this associate degree are eligible for membership of the Australian Computer Society at the associate grade.
