Bachelor of Applied Science - Property and Valuation (Honours)

Develop understanding of property fundamentals to build a successful career in the property industry. This course provides students with deep knowledge of the property sector, to specialise in all the subsets of property and valuation. The course provides a strong grounding in property studies, achieving skills and knowledge in specific fields such as property investment, funds management, development, property management, valuation, consultancy, and property analysis. Students develop competency in identifying, analysing and solving problems relating to property. The first year is common to the property, construction management and project management courses, enabling students to work collaboratively in activities and assessment around each of the discipline area. Students undertake three research related courses in this program in the last 1.5 years of the course.

Entry Requirements:

Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) Units 3 and 4: satisfactory completion of any Mathematics; Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or at least 25 in English other than EAL.


Year 1 - You will be provided with an overview of property principles, valuation techniques and property investment strategies. You will also be taught basic construction and project management skills to aid in your work and studies. Year 2 - You will study the property industry in greater detail, with the introduction of property development and investment, along with principles of valuation. Year 3 - You will build on the material of second year and look in depth at valuation procedures, asset management and the property investment markets. Year 4 - The final year prepares you to be industry ready and gives you an insight into the industry environment and its latest trends. The year culminates with the following 3 capstone projects: an industry-focused property research thesis, an investment project, an in-depth property development.

Study Pathways:

If you successfully complete the Advanced Diploma of Building Design (Architectural), you are guaranteed entry and will receive 2 semesters of advanced standing (equivalent to 96 credit points). If you successfully complete the Diploma of Building and Construction (Building), you may be eligible for 2 semesters of advanced standing (equivalent to 96 credit points). Selection is based on academic merit and credit is not guaranteed.


This program is accredited by the Australian Property Institute (API) which has reciprocity agreements with countries like Canada, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Malaysia and Singapore, and membership with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) which is recognised worldwide. This program provides the academic base required for membership to RICS. The API bodies also require applicants to have work experience, and meet other membership criteria to become certified practising valuers (CPV).
