The Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art) is an interdisciplinary, practice-based fine art course offering studies in a broad range of specialised areas. Students in this degree can specialise in: -expanded studio practice (drawing, media arts, painting, video art) -object-based practice (ceramics, gold and silversmithing) -print imaging practice (fine art photography, printmaking) -sculpture, sound and spatial practice (sculpture, sound, public art). Exploring art through studio practice is central to the course. Students develop a range of practical, conceptual and technical skills to enable them to evaluate different approaches to their own practice, or to further their understanding of the creative industries. Studio courses are taught by high profile practising artists and are complemented by integrated studies in the history and theory of art.

Entry Requirements:

Year 12; Prerequisite: Units 3 & 4 - a study score of at least 30 in English (ESL) or at least 25 in any other English; pre-selection kit; and portfolio.

Structure:

The degree structure supports interdisciplinary studies and allows you to refine your individual approach to making and thinking through art. Studio specialisations include: -ceramics -drawing -experimental animation -gold and silversmithing -installation practice -painting -performance art -photography -printmaking -public art -sculpture -sound art -sound design -video art.

Study Pathways:

Graduates of the Diploma of Visual Art may be eligible to apply for exemptions. Foundation studies and visual art students with distinction may articulate directly into the program. An Honours year is available following the successful completion of the Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art). Honours is a pathway to postgraduate research. Eligibility is based on the level of academic achievement during the program.

Graduates exhibit work in world class local, national and international galleries, and hold senior positions in galleries and museums as well as national and international university academic and research positions. Graduates from this program also engage in a range of artistic and cultural activities, such as public art commissions, online and time-based art, production design, website design, photography, special effects art, video editing, project management, festival curation, cultural diplomacy, sound recording, music arrangement, motion picture directing and commercial creative practices.

Recognition:

The program is recognised by national and international funding and support organisations as a degree in fine art, including Arts Victoria and The Australia Council for the Arts.
