Students will acquire knowledge across core areas of business, economics and finance, and the capability to apply these skills in order to perform high-level financial and economic analysis in both the public and private sector. The course consists of common core subjects in business, core subjects in economics and finance, and includes flexibility to choose a minor or electives from business or other disciplines such as accounting, international business, social justice, statistics and politics. To simulate trading in money and foreign exchange markets, students have access to the RMIT Trading Facility which uses a live market data feed from Thomson Reuters Eikon.

Year 12 prerequisite units 3 and a study score of at least 30 in English (ESL) or at least 25 in any other English

Structure:

The program is structured to allow you to supplement specialised studies in economics and finance with four courses to suit your career or personal development goals. The program consists of 24 courses (each 12 credit points) and includes: 8 compulsory common business core courses, 12 business discipline major courses, 4 flexible courses.

Graduates will be equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to manage enterprises in the public and private sectors. You will gain knowledge and skills in the core areas of business, economics and finance, and the capability to apply these skills in multidisciplinary environments. This program provides opportunities for focused and professional training, preparing you for a range of occupations and industries, such as banking, stockbroking, funds management, insurance and superannuation, and in other private sector or government organisations requiring high-level, technical expertise in financial or economic analysis.

Recognition:

Students and graduates of the program are eligible to apply for membership of FINSIA. Students and graduates are eligible to join the CPA Australia Network. Graduates who undertake additional specified courses can have these counted towards partially fulfilling the academic requirements for Associate Membership of CPA Australia. Graduates are eligible to apply for membership of the Finance and Treasury Association (FTA). The above professional accreditations have certain other requirements such as a period of relevant industry experience and training programs that would need to be met after graduation.

Founded in 1887, RMIT became a university in 1992. It offers both higher education and vocational education courses with over 82,000 students including 31,160 international students, of whom 18,860 are taught outside Australia (almost 7,000 at RMIT Vietnam).
