Many engineers quickly move into positions of management within organisations. This double degree will give you an advantage, allowing you to advance into positions of responsibility and influence. A business degree will prepare you to operate in a complex financial system - something often associated with large engineering projects.

Structure

Year 1Your first year concentrates on gaining a strong grounding in mechanical engineering, focusing on the automotive industry. You’ll also be introduced to management.All engineering students will also study an Introduction to Engineering course, incorporating a humanitarian-focused Engineers Without Borders Challenge. You’ll have the opportunity to extend this aspect of your studies by completing an Engineers Without Borders elective, enabling you to experience humanitarian engineering first-hand.Year 2While continuing your studies in maths, mechatronics, mechanics and dynamics and digital fundamentals you’ll also undertake a Project Based Learning (PBL) course which concentrates on the study of machine elements and their incorporation into simple machines.Year 3You’ll focus on business studies including studies in management, marketing, economics and commercial law.Year 4You’ll deepen your knowledge in automotive and mechanical engineering by looking at areas such as vehicle design, vibrations, thermo-fluid mechanics and power systems.Year 5Your final-year (capstone) project will develop and reinforce the skills and knowledge you need - as defined by Engineers Australia - to commence your professional engineering career. You may have the opportunity to present your project at EnGenius, an end of year student showcase event.Electives will allow you to develop specialist skills and enhance your learning in chosen areas of interest.You’ll also complete a work-integrated learning (industry experience) elective in Year 4 or 5.

Study pathways

There are no articulation agreements with this double degree, however students with related qualifications in automotive engineering or management may be considered for exemptions on a case-by-case basis. GPA will be considered as part of the application for advanced standing.

Graduates may move to management positions. Areas of employment include transport, petrochemical industries, energy supply, building services, defence forces, governments and general engineering and consulting organisations.
