This double degree combines the essential elements of environmental science (understanding the interactions in the environment) with environmental engineering (designing solutions to environmental problems). As a double degree graduate you will be uniquely placed to work in a variety of industries and roles, with a combined understanding of the science and the ability to design technical solutions. This program puts you at the interface of science and engineering and offers: considerable hands-on experience with laboratory and field equipment; field trips as an integral part of the learning process; opportunities to work on collaborative projects with industry; and minor studies in groundwater and either environmental biology and environmental chemistry.

Entry Requirements:

Current Year 12 prerequisites units 3 and 4 - a study score of at least 20 in one of Mathematical Methods (any) or Specialist Mathematics; and a study score of at least 25 in any English (except EAL) or at least 30 in English (EAL).


Year 1 - You'll concentrate on fundamentals in environmental science, chemistry, biology and engineering mathematics. Year 2 - During second year, your environmental science studies will cover the hydrosphere, ecology and soil environment. Year 3 - You'll learn about the atmosphere and start to study courses from your chosen minor of either environmental biology or environmental chemistry. You'll also gain a basic grounding in environmental engineering through studies in urban systems of water supply and pollution control. Year 4 - In your fourth year, you will complete your minor studies in either environmental biology or environmental chemistry. You will further develop your understanding of urban water systems, economics, waste water treatments and land contamination. Year - Your final year will focus on advanced studies in environmental sampling and analysis as well as studies in ethics, policies and law.

Graduates with environmental science and environmental engineering qualifications are highly sought after. They can also work as consultants, designing innovative environmental products or resolving existing environmental problems using their environmental science and engineering skills.


This program is fully accredited by Engineers Australia. Graduates of the program are eligible for graduate membership of Engineers Australia. Australia is one of 15 countries that are signatories to the International Engineering Alliance, also known as the Washington Accord, for professional engineers. The qualification of graduates from this degree is recognised in all countries that are signatories to the Accord. All graduates will be eligible for membership of the Environment Institute of Australia and New Zealand.
