This flexible degree, thoroughly grounded in biosciences and evidence-based care, will give you an excellent theoretical and clinical foundation to start your career as a registered nurse. The degree consists of theory, nursing laboratory skills, clinical simulation and clinical practise. Acute care nursing, primary and community health and mental health nursing are also covered. You'll undertake clinical practice in each year (20 weeks in total), in a range of healthcare settings, including major metropolitan hospitals and the community sector. The fully staffed clinical laboratories on campus will provide extended access to labs to practice your nursing skills. You'll also learn from human cadavers or simulated anatomy samples for observation and anatomical location. You'll be able to select one elective in your area of interest including - palliative care; health and physical assessment; advanced speciality nursing; dual diagnosis co-morbidity and society; or paediatric nursing.

Current Year 12 prerequisites units 1 and 2 - Mathematics (any) or units 3 and 4 - Mathematics (any), and a study score of at least 25 in English (except EAL) or at least 30 in English (EAL)


Year 1 - You'll study biosciences, fundamentals of nursing practice, essentials of health care in Australia and undertake clinical practice. Year 2 - You'll extend the knowledge and skills developed in Year 1 and focus on caring for people in acute care settings, such as medical, surgical and mental health nursing. Year 3 - You'll acquire further knowledge and skills in general and more specialised areas of nursing practice. A professional development seminar will prepare you for working as a registered nurse. You will also have the opportunity to select one elective in an area that interests you for a broader learning experience. Study Pathways:

Graduates who have completed an Australian accredited Diploma of Nursing less than 12 months prior to their application are eligible to seek eight courses of credit into the Bachelor of Nursing. Applicants who have graduated with an Australian accredited Diploma of Nursing more than 12 months and up to 10 years prior to their application can also seek credit but must hold registration as an Enrolled Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.

Graduates will have excellent employment prospects in a diverse range of healthcare settings, including acute public and private hospitals, community and public health, mental health nursing, aged care nursing, specialty support services, industry and school health nursing. Employment is readily available in metropolitan, rural, remote and overseas locations.


Graduates will be eligible to apply for registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
