Students will learn to analyse, design and build sophisticated business information systems through the use of state-of-the-art methodologies, tools, hardware and software. Students study a common core in business and major studies in business information systems. In third year, students undertake a compulsory work placement in industry. A business design project completed in the final year is aimed at consolidating the theoretical and work experience components of the course. The course has the flexibility to complete a minor, or electives from business or other disciplines to tailor studies according to individual career goals. This course includes a compulsory work placement in third year. Students are responsible for obtaining their own placement, however, support is available to assist with your job search. Students who are unable to secure a placement can transfer to a related 3 year business degree.

Structure

This program is suited to students who already have significant working experience, or for those who want to extend studies in business and related disciplines by choosing from a range of second majors and minors to suit career or personal development goals. The program consists of 24 courses (each 12 credit points) and includes: 8 compulsory common business core courses, 8 business discipline major courses 8 flexible courses. The 8 flexible courses may be selected from 3 options: a second business discipline major (8 courses), a compulsory business discipline minor (4 courses) plus second minor (any discipline) a compulsory business discipline minor (4 courses) plus 4 electives. A second business major can be selected from: accounting, economics, entrepreneurship, finance, financial planning, human resource management, international business, logistics and supply chain management, management, marketing.

  • Prerequisites: Units 3 & 4 - a study score of at least 30 in English (ESL) or at least 25 in any other English

Recognition

Subject to undertaking an approved pattern of work, the degree has been accredited at professional membership level by the Australian Computer Society (ACS). The Society has reciprocal membership agreements with computer societies in New Zealand, USA, Canada, UK, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Malaysia and Singapore. In addition, graduates can apply for ACS Certified Professional (CP) status thereby gaining global recognition as an ICT professional.
