This program is a broad-based business degree with specialisations in accounting aimed at providing you with the necessary technical skills and business knowledge for a career in accounting. The focus on work-integrated learning (Cooperative Education) aids RMIT graduates to develop generic skills and professional capabilities that are highly sought after by employers.

Structure

24 x 12 credit point units of study plus 96 credit points of Work Integrated Learning (WIL course). The 24 courses are made up of the following: 8 business common core courses, 8 professional accountancy major courses, 2 compulsory specialist courses, 2 business design project courses (capstone courses) and the choice of 4 flexible courses made up of either a business minor, a minor from another discipline or 4 student electives.

Standard entry requirements

  • Prerequisite: Units 3 & 4 - a study score of at least 30 in English (ESL) or at least 25 in any other English

Recognition

Accredited by CPA Australia and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia. Graduates are entitled to associate membership of all the professional accounting bodies: CPA Australia, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and the Institute of Public Accountants, provided auditing and taxation subjects are passed. Graduates must then undertake the chosen professional body's qualification program and gain 3 years relevant practical experience to gain full membership.

The accountancy program provides a business qualification which enables graduates to advance in a variety of careers. Graduates gain employment in public accounting practices, supporting staff teams in areas such as auditing, taxation, management consulting, business services and receivership. Others are recruited into commercial and government organisations in treasury, internal audit, strategic business planning, financial reporting and management accounting roles.
