This specialised degree provides a professional qualification that allows you to work in a range of primary and early childhood education settings locally and internationally. This course focuses on contemporary approaches to teaching and learning in primary and early childhood education settings. Subjects centre on promoting literacy and numeracy, an appreciation of diversity, an understanding of modern schooling and children's services, evidence-based decision making and reflective practice. A feature of this course is the integration of discipline, curriculum and pedagogical knowledge with professional experience. Professional experience is an integral component in each semester of this course. Students undertake a minimum of 140 days supervised practicum in a variety of educational settings including one with a focus on the use of information and communication technologies to promote learning.

Standard entry requirements
- Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or at least 25 in English other than EAL
- Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 20 in any Mathematics.
This program is accredited by the Victorian Institute of Teaching and the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL). Through reciprocal arrangements between registration authorities, graduates can teach nationally and overseas.
Graduates who achieve a minimum of competency credit (CC) in mathematics and English in the Diploma of Education Support (no longer offered to commencing students) or the Certificate IV in Education Support are guaranteed entry into this program. Relevant vocational education (TAFE) or higher education studies may be eligible for exemptions if appropriate. This is considered on a case-by-case basis by the Program Director.
