Incorporating Design Thinking and Narrative Therapy principles, this graduate certificate reflects up to date ideas about career development and its place in a changing world.Designed to meet the needs of both aspiring career development practitioners and those currently practicing wanting to develop their skills and obtain professional standing in the career development industry, this flexible online certificate develops core knowledge and skills in career development practice.Combining hands-on experiences with theoretical learning, you will build the skills you need to be an effective and influential career practitioner in a variety of settings. We offer you three days of professional placement, giving you the opportunity to gain real-world experience.The curriculum focuses on the key competencies determined by the Career Industry Council of Australia (CICA). You’ll learn to develop career management strategies, high-level communication and counselling skills and to apply ethical and effective practice in career development.On completion of this certificate you satisfy the educational requirements for membership of a professional association such as Career Development Association of Australia (CDAA), CICA.

Structure

Your learning experience will be delivered online, giving you the flexibility to design your study plan around life and work demands.You’ll develop and apply your understanding of career management skills in a diverse range of educational and professional settings.The curriculum is made up of 48 credit points.

Standard entry requirements

Successfully completed an Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent overseas qualification). Significant work experience or professional practice in a relevant field.

The RMIT careers program is endorsed by CICA and therefore facilitates membership of affiliated professional associations such as: Career Education Association of Victoria (CEAV), Career Development Association of Australia (CDAA), National Association of Graduate Career Advisory Services (NAGCAS), Career Education Association of Western Australia (CEAWA), Careers Advisors Association of NSW and ACT (CAA) and Queensland Association of Student Advisors (QASA).

This is an articulated program leading from graduate certificate to graduate diploma. The program will recognise prior experience and learning. The graduate certificate and graduate diploma are accepted pathways into the Master of Education.
