Students engage with specialised areas of design research or undertake historical and theoretical architectural research investigations. This program is available in 2 modes - project and thesis. Project mode is taken under individual supervision in a choice of program areas including: Architecture Industrial Design Interior Design Fashion Landscape Architecture. Applicants for individual research should discuss their design research proposal with the research coordinator in the relevant discipline area. Thesis mode offers the framework, focus and discipline necessary for speculative inquiry. Areas of research investigation include: design theory historical and theoretical studies contemporary and Australian design.
Project mode is undertaken within the structured framework of individual supervision in a choice of program areas such as architecture, industrial design, interior design, fashion, and landscape architecture. Within each program there is a selection of streams, including: the Urban Architecture Laboratory (UAL) Spatial Information Architecture Laboratory (SIAL) Furniture Design Invitational Stream individual practice-based research.
Standard entry requirements
- A four year bachelor degree with at least a credit average in the final undergraduate year
- Or another recognised award deemed to be equivalent in character and standard to a four year undergraduate degree, with at least a credit average in the final undergraduate year.
A PhD course is also available in this area.
